Three steps to a beautiful home garden

We’ve all dreamt of having a beautiful garden full of blossoming flowers of all shades. But most of us have learnt the hard way that maintaining such a garden is way harder than it looks.

Sometimes it may seem too daunting to start a garden, and sometimes it may seem like no matter how hard you try, you can never get your garden to look the way you want.

With these three tips, you can bring your garden a little closer to your dreams.

  • Start!

The first step to having a great garden is to start gardening! This may seem obvious, but for many this is often the hardest step. From choosing the best plants to start with, to figuring out where you want to plant your first bush or tree, the amount of choices you have to make can seem daunting.

There are two ways you can go about this.

The first method would be to start small. You can simply pick one type of plant like roses, so that you can get some flowers without having to wait for too long. You can start with some pre grown plants to get to this stage faster.

No matter which plant to you choose, be it a rose or a fern, make sure that you read up on that particular type of plant, and identify the conditions need for that plant to thrive. For instance while roses need plenty of hours of sunshine, anthuriums prefer to grow in the shade. Some plants require consistent watering and then suitability of the weather, so you need to look into that as well.

However if you have a large garden, then planting a single rose tree may not seem like much of a start. This is where the second method comes in.

  • Try a bit of landscaping

Landscaping may seem like a large and daunting task. But it doesn’t have to be! Just like with gardening you can start small, and work your way from there. All the beautiful gardens you have seen in movies, magazines or even when you visit somewhere like Haggala, are the results of carefully planned landscaping.

First of all, you can look up some ideas on the internet and decide on an initial plan that you like the look of. Even though you wont be able to implement the exact same thing in your garden, you can always use these plans as inspiration, and work your way from there.

Even if you are completely new to the idea of landscaping, you can easily get started by hiring a professional gardener.

A common myth is that you need a large garden to try landscaping. This is simply not true. Landscaping works equally well on gardens of all sizes, and can give you gorgeous results on land of any size.

  • Keep it up!

Many people enthusiastically take up gardening, whether they start off with a small tree or by giving their garden a total makeover, but only a few follow up. Constant care and commitment is the key to having a beautiful garden, and you have to be committed to both taking care for your plants as well as on expanding your garden.

Many people might end up neglecting watering/ weeding or taking care of their plants after the first few weeks.

Another common issue is fertilizer use. Do you use artificial fertilizer, how much should you use or should you go all natural?

For flower plants, it is okay to use chemical fertilizer but it is very important to remember not to overdo it. Too high a dose of fertilizer can be detrimental to the health of your plants. A gardener can help you with maintaining your garden as well, be it a simple bit of weeding, or giving advice on the best way to take care of your brand new garden.
